Whether you’re looking to capture a holiday card, a milestone moment, or just some beautiful family memories, the Dallas-Fort Worth area is packed with amazing locations for a photoshoot. As a photographer based in Dallas, I’ve explored quite a few spots that offer the perfect mix of scenery, lighting, and accessibility. Here are some of my top picks for family photoshoots in DFW.
If you’re looking for a mix of open fields, trails, and a little bit of a woodsy feel, Arbor Hills is a fantastic choice. The natural landscape makes for gorgeous golden-hour shots, and there’s plenty of space for kids to run around and just be themselves. The walking paths, wildflowers (seasonal), and stone bridge give plenty of variety in one location.
This is a classic spot for family photos, and for good reason! White Rock Lake offers a variety of backdrops—lush greenery, water views, and even the Dallas skyline in the distance. The sunset here is stunning, and there are plenty of little nooks around the lake where you can get a more secluded, intimate setting for your family portraits.
If you want a location that feels elegant and well-manicured, the Dallas Arboretum is hard to beat. The seasonal displays here are incredible, and you’ll always find fresh, colorful backgrounds no matter what time of year you visit. Keep in mind that there is an entrance fee and a separate photography fee, but the results are always worth it.
A hidden gem in DFW, Grapevine Botanical Gardens offers a mix of beautiful greenery, small bridges, and a picturesque pond. It’s not as crowded as some of the bigger parks, which can make for a more relaxed and stress-free session—especially if you have little ones who need some extra time to warm up to the camera.
For a more urban feel, Klyde Warren Park is a great choice. You’ll get a mix of modern cityscapes and greenery, and if your family enjoys a casual, lifestyle-type shoot, there are tons of fun spots around the park where you can just capture natural interactions. Plus, there are food trucks nearby for a post-shoot treat!
If you want something a little more rugged and full of Texas charm, Tandy Hills in Fort Worth is a great pick. Rolling hills, open fields, and an untouched prairie vibe make for a unique backdrop, especially at sunset when the light is soft and warm.
For a fun, Western-themed shoot, you can’t go wrong with the Stockyards. The brick streets, rustic buildings, and cowboy culture give a nostalgic Texas feel to your photos. If your family is up for it, you can even catch the cattle drive for an extra special shot!
Davis Park is one of those quiet, tucked-away spots that feels like a hidden retreat in the middle of the city. The stone bridge, trickling creek, and beautiful trees make for a dreamy, storybook-like setting. It’s a fantastic option if you want something simple but timeless.
No matter where you choose to have your family photos taken in DFW, the key is picking a location that feels right for your family’s personality. Whether it’s a nature-filled escape, a city skyline, or a classic Texas setting, DFW has something for everyone.
